Season 1 Of The Legend of Korra Season 1 Episode 6

The final faceoff has begun. Not with Korra and the mysterious Amon, but between the Fire Ferrets and the smarmy Wolf Bats in the pro-bending finals.

In advance of the championships, Amon takes over the airwaves in Republic City and issues a demand: he wants the council to shut down the championship match, “or else there will be severe consequences.” He doesn’t say exactly what the “or else” is, but it doesn’t sound good.

“It’s time for this city to stop worshiping bending athletes as if they were heroes,” Amon warns. For a supposed villain, Amon makes a lot of sense a lot of the time. Could Korra be fighting for the wrong side? Or maybe that’s the dangerous allure of Public Enemies–they mix stuff that you can agree with in with stuff that you absolutely shouldn’t do.

Korra and her Fire Ferret team confront the city council, pleading with them not to cancel the competition and give in to Amon’s threats. Surprisingly, the scheming Tarrlok agrees with Tenzin and votes to stop the show. But when Chief Lin Beifong appears, mocks Tenzin a bit, and guarantees the safety of the pro-bending attendees (she says her armor makes her forces impervious to chi-blocker attacks), Tarrlok changes his vote and agrees to let the championship go on as planned. Tarrlok is up to something. More about this later.

After the vote, Korra talks to Tenzin and figures out that Beifong and Tenzin were an item back in the day (!) before he married his wife. She still carries a torch–and a grudge—against him. That’s a lot of luggage to carry, even for an earthbender/metalbender.

The championships kick off, and, because the judges have seemingly been paid off, the Wolf Bats defeat the Fire Ferrets by cheating and rule-breaking (Korra’s moves, however, earn Beifong’s grudging respect). As the match draws to a close, Amon’s followers, who have positioned themselves around the arena, put on their masks and launch their sneak attacks, taking out Tenzin and Beifong. They are armed with electrical gloves that deliver a shock that goes right through metal armor.

Korra–after being electrified–sees a vision. She is tied up, but escapes and pursues Amon and his followers. With a boost from a revived Beifong, she defeats Amon’s Lieutenant, but Amon blows up the pro-bending court and escapes. Next To Website >>
